IEP & IAP/504

Requesting an Evaluation

Although RTI can give teams important information about the child and prevent inappropriate identification of a child as having a disability, RTI can NOT be used to delay or deny an evaluation. A parent can request an evaluation at any time, even if the child is currently in RTI.

Parents have the right to request Pupil Appraisal to conduct an evaluation for their child at any time. However, if a parent were to approach the district directly to request an evaluation, they will need to know what type of evaluation they would like to request. It is important for new parents to understand the difference between an IEP and an IAP (504 plan).
