for individuals with disabilities and their friends 16 years and older.
iCAN (Inclusive Community Adult Network)excites individuals of all abilities to live life to the fullest. The heart of this mission is to build true friendships across all boundaries. iCAN is a program of Northshore Families Helping Families that gives individuals with developmental disabilities the freedom to experience real adventure. This is played out as relationships are built through weekly events of laughter, singing, food and fun, as well as opportunities to enhance life skills. Our vision is that life–‐long friendships will develop among iCAN’s participants and volunteers. Through iCAN, these friends encounter the life they are meant to live, a life of personal growth while learning what it means to grow together. At the center, iCAN believes that we all live with great purpose, that when joining together “Ican!”

iCAN’s Mission in Action
Friends–Those who have a disability. Friends are those who have a developmental disability.Rather than focus on our Friend’s disabilities, it’s important to highlight the unique abilities they’ve been given.
Family–Those who have lived to love these Friends. Family are those who have a vested interest and personal relationship with Friends. They are those who give of themselves in order to strengthen Friends in a particular area of life. Family are teachers, coaches, mentors, as well as family members.
Buddies–Volunteers who will live to love these Friends. These are people from all walks of life who desire to love Friends. Little to no training is involved in being a Buddy, just a willing spirit and a thankful heart. A one–‐on–‐one Buddy to Friend ratio is ideal as it provides our Friends with personal attention.
Leaders–Buddies who commit to grow together through education and fellowship. Leaders commit to engage regularly with Friends, learn about specific disabilities, share personal experiences, plan iCAN events and become active leaders in their communities.
