Social Skills Help Is On Its Way!

Does your child struggle with social skills? Are you struggling to access resources to help your child with social skills?

Families have told us that they have difficulty teaching social skills to their children for various reasons. In response to these needs, we have partnered with Chris Francl (MCF Consulting) and Janet Mora to develop a Social Network Project designed to give parents tools and strategies to be able to work on social skill development with their children in their natural environments. This will be accomplished by providing training to families and by linking families with similar needs and interests for the purposes of fostering friendships and structuring social opportunities.

You’ve talked and we’ve listened. We now invite you to take our Social Network Project Survey to assist us in designing the initial training.

These meetings are open to the public.

The Regional Advisory Committee (RAC) for Developmental Disabilities Services for Florida Parishes Human Services Authority, established by legislative act, ensures public input in an advisory capacity in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and the allocation of resources to the Office for Citizens with Developmental Disabilities. This input shall be derived from communication with, but not limited to, individuals with disabilities and their families and other concerned groups or individuals.

The Florida Parishes Human Services Authority (FPHSA) geographical service area encompasses Washington, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, St. Helena and Livingston Parishes. FPHSA is a state funded local governance entity (LGE) with 9 Board Members who direct the operation and management of community-based programs for persons with Addictions, Developmental Disabilities, and Mental Illnesses.

Give comments about an interest, need or concern about issues facing families or individuals with disabilities. Get information about resources that may be available for you or others. Region 9 RAC wants to hear from you!

How to Create an Effective Transition Plan

Northshore Families Helping Families invites you to attend a transition workshop that is essential for parents of middle and high school students. It will also help parents of younger students prepare for the future by learning how to plan now for the transition years. Learn how to develop a comprehensive transition plan, what a good transition plan should include and how you can plan during the high school years for a bright future for your child once he/she becomes an adult. This workshop will take place on Friday, March 22nd from 10am-12pm at the St. Helena School Board Office. Click here to register.
